US Customs and Border Protection
Winbourne & Costas, Inc., Inc. provides US Customs and Border Protection under Homeland Security with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery services for their modernization project.
The U.S. Customs Service embarked on a modernization effort to improve Customs trade, enforcement, and administrative operations. The scope of this effort is vast; it reaches across the entire Customs Service and into the trade community, including interacting with other government agencies.
Winbourne & Costas, Inc. engaged in a partnership with IBM, and US Customs and Boarder Protection to provide Disaster Recovery capabilities, modernize the disaster recovery strategic plan, perform a Business Impact Analysis study, participate in testing exercises, and maintain continuous improvements for business continuity and high availability.
Winbourne & Costas, Inc.' role includes the following objectives identified in the development of the modernization DR strategic plan. These objectives, grouped into four distinct DR operational concepts: Management, Planning and Analysis, Design and Engineering, and Operations and Maintenance ("O&M").
- Management: - Develop strategic planning and methodologies for managing disaster recovery across the enterprise, program, release levels, with validating these methodologies are collaborated and coordinated with the US Customs and Border Protection ("CBP") Disaster Recovery Operation Center ("DROC").
- Planning and Analysis: - Coordinate the collection of disaster recovery data, and collaborate with the DROC on creation of a data collection process and analysis instruments, validate and analyze collected data, and provide updates to the CBP Business Impact Analysis ("BIA") and Disaster Recovery Plan ("DRP").
- Design and Engineering: - Facilitate the design and engineering of systems that meet the recovery requirements of the BIA. Design will enable the recovery, in a prioritized and modular framework where appropriate, of mission-critical and critical systems first.
- Operations and Maintenance: - Collaborate with the DROC in planning and performing disaster recovery exercises, documenting the expected results, scheduling and coordinating testing exercise resources, developing and performing documented backup and recovery procedures, attending DROC and other training, participating in disaster recovery exercises, and documenting corrective action plans based on the outcome of those exercises.
